Transcription: One of the most significant gates of the ancient city was the Ishtar Gate. Ishtar was a goddess of war and fertility, synonymous with Ashtoreth and Canaan and Venus in Rome. The original Ishtar Gate was probably built by Nabopilasar, the father of Nebuchadnezzar. This gate would have served as a main northern gate at the time Daniel was taken to Babylon in 605 BC. Later, Nebuchadnezzar filled in the original Ishtar Gate and built a new Ishtar Gate on top of it.
